ANDY VENCES’ STONE BOXING CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING IN SAN JOSE WITH RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY AND COMMUNITY EVENT
SAN JOSE, CA – November 5, 2024– Retired professional boxer Andy Vences is proud to announce the grand opening of Stone Boxing, the new home for San Jose’s amateur and professional boxers. The decorated boxer will host a celebration to mark the day on Saturday, November 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 11:30. Stone Boxing, located at 385 E. Taylor Street, Unit 2A in San Jose, welcomes the media and community to join the celebration.
Members of San Jose’s District 3 will attend the celebration, and the city has graciously provided the ribbon and ceremonial scissors for the occasion. There will be a potluck lunch provided by gym members, a live DJ, and a sparring demonstration. The event is free, and the community is encouraged to attend.
Vences named the gym after his longtime manager, the late Herb Stone, who made an indelible impact on the boxer, his life, and career. Boxing fans who enjoyed Vences’ all-action, all courage, all grit fighting career might recognize the icon’s name from Vences’ fighting trunks. Vences always kept Stone close to mind and in his corner.
“Herb changed my life from the moment we met,” said Vences. “If it weren’t for Herb Stone, I wouldn't have been signed to the biggest promotional company in boxing. He paved the way for me, and although he's not with us anymore, I'm still doing what I love because of him. He was my angel from heaven.”
Vences hopes to continue Stone’s legacy, guiding and teaching youth in the community, as he continues his career behind the pads.
“It means everything to own my own gym, and it's given me a new purpose in life. It was long-overdue, and due to past circumstances, I got connected with an amazing team I can now call family. They carry the same morals Herb had. We just want the best for our clients, members, kids, and all the future boxers that will arise out of this gym.
“This grand opening marks an exciting new chapter in my career and in the community, as we open our doors to San Jose. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone to our state-of-the-art gym and to celebrate the sport of boxing in a way that brings people together," said Vences.
The grand opening celebration is sponsored by SNAC and Goodfellas, Cash For Gold and Watch Inc., and Campbell Pizza.
